• Spirulina is a microscopic and filamentous cyanobacterium that derives its name from the spiral or helical nature of its filaments.
• Spirulina refers to the dried biomass of Arthrospira platensis, an oxygenic photosynthetic bacterium found worldwide in fresh and marine waters.
